PARLIAMENTARY FRONT WILL BRING OPPORTUNITIES TO THE FURNITURE SECTOR

12/12/2019

After being officially launched, the Mixed Parliamentary Front in Defense of the Furniture Industry (Fremob) has a long journey ahead. In order to represent the interests of the furniture sector before the Congress and the Senate, the initiative is demanding efforts from the entities that represent the sector.

The president of the Brazilian Furniture Industries Association (Abimóvel), Maristela Cusin Longhi, tells how the association contributed to making Fremob a reality. “It was a job that started under President Daniel Lutz and which, in a structured way, we consolidated this year. It was not an easy action, as it requires time, dedication and hard work. There were countless meetings that we held, both in the National Congress, in Brasilia, and in Rio Grande do Sul, with the President of the Parliamentary Front, Dep. Jerônimo Georgen (PP/RS) and with the involvement of the board and staff of our entity. We know what the industry and the sector expect and we are not measuring efforts in the search for better results for the sector ”, she says.

Maristela also explains the relevance of this moment for the Brazilian furniture sector. “The Mixed Parliamentary Front in Defense of the Furniture Industry, represents a very important advance for the wood and furniture production chain where we will have, on a permanent basis, parliamentarians defending and acting on the causes of the sector. The front is an instrument of political representativeness to deal with issues in the production chain at a national level. We have a survey of topics that the Government and Congress need to address and the Parliamentary Front is one of those strategic alliances in the search for solutions for the sustained growth of the furniture sector”.

On Fremob's launch date, she made a point of highlighting the relevance of the furniture sector for the country's economy. “The furniture sector today represents 19 thousand industries, 268 thousand jobs and a turnover of 67.4 billion (2018). It is a sector that generates a lot of intensive labor, being the 8th sector that most employs in Brazil. Therefore, we have effective demands that compromise the sector's competitiveness. Solving these issues is essential to make the sector grow with economic, social and environmental stability, contributing to the internationalization of our companies. We count on this parliamentary front a lot ”, she says.

Cândida Cervieri, executive director of Abimóvel, explains that Fremob is already showing strength in Brasilia. “For the installation of the Parliamentary Front, it is necessary, at least, the participation of 170 Deputies, today we count on the participation of 200 deputies and more than 10 Senators in our Fremob; this does not happen by chance, but because of the great and important work that the entity has been doing for the sector over the past few years, with a structured agenda, defined objectives and a work agenda aimed at improving the competitiveness of the sector and Brazilian furniture”.

Industry representatives show enthusiasm

Irineu Munhoz, president at SIMA (Furniture Industry Union of Arapongas and Region) and vice president at Abimóvel, also remarked the relevance of Fremob. “This moment is very important for the furniture sector, as we cannot ignore the political decisions that take place here in Brasília. This parliamentary front aims to make us aware of what is happening, in addition to strengthening the sector's ties with parliamentarians ”.

For the managing director of Revista Móbile, Carlos Bessa, the front will contribute to the improvement of business in the country. “You have a regulation that, at times, has a similar appearance to that practiced in the European market without the Brazilian market having the same consumption profile. This creates an exaggeration of regulations”.

The importance of laws for the economy

One of the roles of parliamentarians is to create, exclude or improve legislation. These laws will be the object of work by organizations and, of course, the judiciary, making lawyers, prosecutors, judges etc. focus on the texts, in order to apply them in the best possible way.

Law professor Gustavo Côrrea (Newton Paiva University Center) explains that our legal system follows a very old work logic. “Our legal tradition is marked by the influence of the Roman-Germanic system, also known as Civil Law. This legal model has as its main source of law the laws / norms - reason why it is attributed to them, the pseudo "Impression of providing legal certainty to the system, when in fact this security is not generated simply by the "cold" letter of the law, but by the argumentative consistency used in the discourse of Law", he clarifies.

The professor also says that due to this characteristic, the citizen can believe that the production of more laws is what will guarantee benefits to the society. “Many laws are produced believing, illusively, in the immediate solution of their effects - which, in most cases, does not happen. The solution is to excel in the effectiveness of the existing rules, before we think about regulating everything, believing in the fable of a non-existent enchanted normative universe ”, he concludes.

However, Correa believes that Fremob will play a fundamental role in strengthening the furniture sector. "Undeniably, the creation of the Mixed Parliamentary Front in Defense of the Furniture Industry contributes positively to the expansion of the list of new actors to contribute to the improvement of the discursive arena that, from now on, becomes part of this important sector of the Brazilian economy".
